Gear for Adventure was started in September of 2004 by Kevin and Sarah Beckwith to pursue a lifelong dream of owning our own business and to allow Sarah to quit her day job so she can stay home to take care of any children we may have. As of this writing (9-12-05) Sarah is pregnant with our first child and due on Christmas Day of 2005. UPDATE: Sarah gave birth on January 3rd 2006 to a (sometimes) happy, healthy baby girl! Anyway here is our story. We've always hiked and camped our whole lives and continued to venture a little farther in the woods and stay a little longer. In 2001 we took a week long trip to Algonquin park in Canada and loved it. For those of you who haven't been there I highly recommend it. There are many lakes (most of which allow no motorboats) and terrific solitude. The only way to get to the interior of the park is to hike, canoe or float plane. This really got us into the serenity of hiking and paddling and got me to thinking I'd like to make a living in this industry. Since then we've climbed a Munro in Scotland and a mountain in the Adirondacks.  This is a picture of us on Anoch Mor in Scotland.
